Do tulips exist?
There are over 150 species of tulips, with over 3,000 naturally occurring and genetically cultivated varieties. New varieties are still being created, but it takes at least 20 years of cultivation before you will find them in your local florist’s shop. Tulips are native to central Asia.

Tulip season runs from the end of March until mid May, with the blooms peaking in mid-April. By June, and especially by the end of the month, they are long gone. You might visit the Amsterdam Tulip Museum for a bit of the experience, or stop at tulip field in which, after the season, many other varieties are grown.
What do tulips look like?
Tulip flowers are cup-shaped with three colorful petals and three sepals. They come in various sizes, from small species that grow in natural woodland areas to larger tulips that commonly grow in gardens . These upright flowers could be single or double and vary in cups, bowls, goblets, and more forms.
The majority of tulip cultivars are classified in the taxon Tulipa ×gesneriana. They have usually several species in their direct background, but most have been derived from Tulipa suaveolens (today often regarded as a synonym with Tulipa schrenkii).
Each capsule contains numerous flat, disc-shaped seeds in two rows per chamber. These light to dark brown seeds have very thin seed coats and endosperm that does not normally fill the entire seed. Leaves: Tulip stems have few leaves.
Are tulips poisonous to humans?
The tulip bulbs contain compounds of alkaloid and glycoside, which are toxic to humans. While tulip salads were high in demand, they wanted to use more of the flower to make meals.
There are a number of plants found in gardens and the countryside which are considered poisonous to dogs. They range from common garden plants such as primroses and tulips, to vegetation such as foxgloves and horse chestnuts found on dog-walking routes.
