Do roses make fruit?

Roses develop rosehips which are fruit, and many plants develop seed pods, grains, or nuts which are technically fruits. Some flowers are strictly male, so they will not develop fruit, and other flowers have been made sterile through hybridization. Some flowers reproduce so well asexually that they have no need for flowers.

Roses do produce what a botanist considers a fruit just not a soft fleshy fruit like the apple. The rose has a hip as their fruit that contains the seeds known as achenes.

After a rose (Rosa spp.) is pollinated, the petals drop off to reveal the rose fruit, which is called a hip. Rose hips are actually seed pods, and each one contains dozens of seeds. Although you can grow roses from seeds, most are hybrids, so the results are unpredictable.
